Equipment Staking System
Before you can fish in SAB, you must stake a complete 6-piece loadout. This on-chain commitment is what gives you fishing rights in the ocean simulation. Here's everything you need to know.
🎯 What is Equipment Staking?
Equipment staking means committing your fishing gear on the Solana blockchain to participate in fishing. Think of it as "gearing up" - you can't fish without your equipment ready.
You CANNOT fish without exactly 6 pieces staked: Boat + Rod + Reel + Hook + Line + Lure
🎒 The 6-Piece Requirement
Required Loadout Components
You must stake exactly one of each:
| Equipment | Function | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| 🚢 Boat | Biome Access + Max Depth | Has biomes array and max_depth - determines where and how deep you can fish |
| 🎣 Rod | Catch Chance Multiplier | Provides multiplier (e.g. 1.5x) combined with reel for total catch power |
| ⚙️ Reel | Retrieve Speed | Multiplier combined with rod to calculate final reel_power for catches |
| 🪝 Hook | Fish Weight Capacity | Sets max_fish_weight - cannot catch fish heavier than hook capacity |
| 🪢 Line | Fishing Depth Limit | Combined with boat depth: min(boat.max_depth, line.max_depth) |
| 🎯 Lure | Species-Specific Bonus | Multiplier only applies to fish with matching lure_preference |
Staking Rules
✅ You Can:
- Stake any rarity equipment (Common to Legendary)
- Change your loadout anytime (unstake + restake)
- Have multiple complete sets for different strategies
❌ You Cannot:
- Fish with incomplete loadout (missing any piece)
- Stake multiple of the same equipment type
- Use equipment while it's unstaked
🔧 How to Stake Equipment
Step 1: Check Your Equipment
- Go to "Equipment" or "Inventory"
- Verify you have all 6 required pieces:
- ✅ 1 Boat, 1 Rod, 1 Reel, 1 Hook, 1 Line, 1 Lure
- ❌ Missing pieces? Buy more packs
Step 2: Access Staking Interface
- Navigate to "Equipment Staking" or "Loadout"
- You'll see 6 empty slots for each equipment type
- Current staking status shows at the top
Step 3: Stake Your Equipment
- Select equipment for each slot:
- Click empty slot → Choose from available equipment
- Consider each piece's stats and bonuses
- Review your loadout before confirming
- Submit staking transaction (small SOL fee required)
- Wait for confirmation (~30 seconds)
- ✅ Loadout active - You can now fish!
Step 4: Verify Staking Status
- Green checkmarks should appear next to all equipment
- "Fishing Active" status should display
- Ocean simulation access should be enabled
⚙️ Loadout Strategy Guide
First Loadout (Beginner)
🎯 Goal: Get fishing as quickly as possible
- Use whatever equipment you have from packs
- Don't overthink rarity mix initially
- Focus on completion over optimization
- Start earning to fund future upgrades
Example First Loadout:
- Common Boat + Common Rod + Common Reel + Uncommon Hook + Common Line + Common Lure
- Result: Can fish in basic biomes, catch small-medium fish
Upgraded Loadout (Intermediate)
🎯 Goal: Access better biomes and catch valuable fish
- Prioritize Boat upgrades (unlocks premium biomes)
- Upgrade Rod next (higher catch success rates)
- Balance other pieces as budget allows
Example Upgraded Loadout:
- Rare Boat + Uncommon Rod + Common Reel + Rare Hook + Uncommon Line + Common Lure
- Result: Access Reef/Ocean biomes, catch medium-large fish
Optimized Loadout (Advanced)
🎯 Goal: Maximum fishing efficiency and returns
- Epic/Legendary Boat (access all premium biomes)
- High-tier Rod (catch success optimization)
- Specialized combinations for specific strategies
Example Optimized Loadout:
- Epic Boat + Rare Rod + Epic Reel + Legendary Hook + Rare Line + Epic Lure
- Result: Access all content, maximum fish values
🔄 Managing Multiple Loadouts
Why Multiple Loadouts?
- Different biomes may favor different equipment
- Seasonal events might require specialized gear
- Risk management (backup equipment if primary breaks)
- Strategy testing (compare loadout performance)
Loadout Switching Strategy
- Keep one primary loadout staked for regular fishing
- Build secondary sets for specific purposes
- Switch loadouts based on:
- Target biome/fish species
- Equipment durability levels
- Market opportunities
⚡ Staking Economics
Opportunity Cost
When equipment is staked:
- ✅ Can participate in fishing simulation
- ✅ Earn fish and $SLAM rewards
- ❌ Cannot sell/trade staked equipment
- ❌ Equipment "locked" until unstaked
Durability Considerations
Most equipment degrades with use:
- Each fish caught WILL reduce durability by 1
- 0 durability equipment becomes unusable
- Plan replacements before equipment breaks
Equipment with Durability
Only these equipment types have durability:
- Hook - degrades with each catch
- Lure - degrades with each catch
- Line - degrades with each catch
- Reel - degrades with each catch
- Rod - degrades with each catch
Boat does NOT have durability - it never breaks or degrades.
Durability by Rarity
| Rarity | Durability | Catches Before Breaking |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 5 | 5 catches |
| Uncommon | 10 | 10 catches |
| Rare | 15 | 15 catches |
| Epic | 20 | 20 catches |
| Legendary | 25 | 25 catches |
🛠️ Troubleshooting Staking Issues
Common Problems
"Cannot access fishing - loadout incomplete"
- Check all 6 slots have equipment staked
- Unstake and restake if some pieces aren't recognized
- Refresh game interface and try again
"Transaction failed when staking"
- Ensure sufficient SOL for transaction fees
- Check that equipment isn't already staked elsewhere
- Try unstaking all pieces and restaking fresh loadout
"Equipment disappeared after staking"
- Equipment becomes "locked" when staked (normal behavior)
- Check staked equipment section, not general inventory
- Unstake to make equipment tradeable/sellable again
"Fishing simulation shows 'no access'"
- Verify all equipment staked successfully (green checkmarks)
- Check boat biome compatibility with target fishing area
- Confirm staking transaction completed on blockchain
Performance Issues
"Getting very few fish bites"
- Equipment quality affects lottery odds significantly
- Biome choice matters - match boat capabilities to biome
- Competition - popular biomes have more players competing
"Caught fish but transaction failed"
- Insufficient SOL for minting transaction fees
- Network congestion - try again in a few minutes
- Bait shortage - ensure you have bait power for the fish
🎯 Next Steps
Loadout staked and ready to fish? Time to:
- Learn Equipment Types → - Understand what each piece does
- Enter the Ocean → - Start fishing!
Your staked equipment is your ticket to the ocean. Choose wisely, fish efficiently, and upgrade strategically! 🎣
Remember: You can always unstake and restake to try different combinations. Experimentation is key to finding your optimal fishing setup.
